Fiction Focus
A blog that accompanies 'Fiction Focus: New Titles for Teenagers' a newsletter published by CMIS Department of Education and Training (Western Australia). Hero?s journey
The Hero's Journey, as experienced through a study of myths and legends, enables students to be exposed to particular cultural knowledge, recognise the functioning of narrative, and to explore the forms and structures of narrative. In this unit students specifically learn to recognise the character traits of the archetypes of the hero's journey, recognise the different types of heroes, and recognise the pattern of the hero's journey or quest that is the basis of narrative. about: how narrative and metaphor are used to make sense of our world; the cultural significance of myths and legends and the morals and values they present; the basis of the hero's journey in myths and legends in literature and film.

The official site for the hit Broadway musical 'Mary Poppins' includes interactive sections for young audiences with a springboard to exploring the show's themes as well as the art of theatre. The Study Guide contains wide ranging ideas and class exercises to: foster creativity and community; engage young people in active learning; connect to learning objectives and curricular goals; and have some serious fun. The Federal Trade Commission (consumer protection agency for the United States) aims to teach kids about advertising and develop critical thinking skills via this game-based website, with html text version available. Lesson plans, worksheets, sample ads and teacher training videos are provided for teachers as well as related activities for the family. A glossary of advertising terms is also included on the site.
